Religion can never reform mankind because religion is slavery. It empowers those who know the truth to manipulate and control the societies. The religious myth is the most powerful device ever created and serves as the psychological soil upon which other myths can flourish.

A myth serves as an orienting and mobilizing story for people. The focus is not on the story's relation to reality but on it's function.A story can not function, unless it is believed to be true in the community or the nation.

Culture is the collective programming of the mind

People are experts on the domain of their experience.

Designws-Platform 21 presents an exhibition devoted to Iranian graphic designer Reza Abedini. Through his work one discovers another side of Iran, the one we don’t see on CNN, the Iran of poetry, Persian tradition and modern culture.

Reza Abedini’s style unites the rich calligraphic tradition of Persian culture with ‘modernity’. On 13 December he receives the Principal Prince Claus Award for his way of applying the knowledge and accomplishments of Iran’s artistic heritage, renewing them, and making them exciting again.

This exhibition shows Abedini’s appreciation of Persian tradition, the historic material he uses as inspiration, his contemporary designs and the work of his students at the university of Teheran. The combination of image and typography is the most distinguishing characteristic of his work. Though the pieces look as if they have been painted, in fact they have been made on a computer.

Alongside the commercial aspects of imm cologne, cultural features such as the ideal houses are extremely important because they give visitors the opportunity to reflect on current developments. To date, ideal houses have been designed by Karim Rashid from New York, Konstantin Grcic from Munich, the Campana brothers from São Paolo, the Bouroullec brothers from Paris, Hella Jongerius from Rotterdam and Patricia Urquiola from Milan, all of whom made a tremendous impact with their work.

In 2006, three rising design stars - Joris Laarman, Stefan Diez and Astrid Krogh - juxtaposed their ideas against those of Dieter Rams, the doyen of technical minimalism. And in 2007, the star architect Zaha Hadid will be presenting her creative ideas for tomorrow's home styles alongside those of the design poet Naoto Fukasawa.

At their new location along the central Boulevard, the huge red cubes of the ideal houses 2007 will form an integral part of the heavily frequented north-south axis that runs through the entire exhibition area.

The concept of this car c,mm,n emphasizes car-use instead of possession, by developing a car of which the blueprints are freely available, the first open source car. This means c,mm,n is not a final product. It is continuously being developed and improved. Designing a car in an open source manner also has an impact on the way it is produced and eventually used. Services will be central to the concept, opening many new possibilities. c,mm,n is not just a car, it is a community that allows people to take sustainable mobility into their own hands.

Iran's complex and unusual political system combines elements of a modern Islamic theocracy with democracy. A network of unelected institutions controlled by the highly powerful conservative Supreme Leader is countered by a president and parliament elected by the people.

For much of the last decade, Iranian politics has been characterised by continued wrangling between these elected and unelected institutions as a reformist president - and, at times, parliament - struggled against the conservative establishment.

But with hardliners' regaining control of the parliament in 2004 and the presidency in 2005, all the organs of government are now dominated by conservatives.

Iran's hard-liners head into Friday's parliamentary elections by a safety net: Rival reformists are crippled after the clerical leadership threw out their best candidates.

The Guardian Council, a body of hard-line clerics and jurists who check candidates for their loyalty to the revolution, barred more than 1,700 candidates from running, most of them reformers, including their best-known leaders.

It seems that this election is the last one for me to participate as for I will leave the country in September. Leaving in Iran and dealing with social and political issues brings everybody a profound insight about social issues.

Individuals learn how to make decisions from childhood and develop their skills as they grow older, so do societies. The most critical difference between individual and social decision making is the broadness of their impact. A wrong decision by a society will cause enormous disasters.

Iranian society has learned how to make decisions through a false and true process. seemingly, this method loses its validity while people lose their access to information. 1978's election was reinforced initially by a demand toward decreasing distances between social levels.

Today, after three decades, the lowest social level has come to power and does not respect other society members' needs. Their hard religious beliefs, lack of proficiency in managerial levels, traditional economy system are the outcomes of their ruling experience and making harsh situation for the people living in Iran.
